An unreported speech of Mr. David 'Kirkwood (Labour member for Motherj well), in the House of Commons in the ! small hours of Friday morning, apI pears -in Hansard. I The House was discussing the | formal gas supply regulations, in | which appeared the usual clause proj tecting the rights of the Prince of i Wales in the Duchy of Cornwall, i Mr. Kirkwood exclaimed: “Is it not time we stopped this nonsense? Why should there be special privileges for the holder of a Duchy. I never met him. Is he poor, that he should need an all-powerful institution to safeguard his interests? Who is he? What is this individual? Where does he come from? Is he a human being or a descendant from Mars requiring special treatment?” The counting out of the House cut short the tirade.
