ENGLISH TROTTING

BEST TWO-YEAR-OLD SEEN Call Boy is evidently a popular racing appellation in the Old Land. RdL cently a colt of that name by Hurry On won the great English racing classic, the Derby, and a two-year-old P a °l n & colt of the same name was the ruling favourite for the Spring Cup which was run in May. Call Boy, says an English exchange, was perhaps unlucky in losing his heat, the long delay on the marks not being in the youngster’s favour. Call Boy, in finishing half a length behind the deadheater, was pacing almost up to the British two-year-old record of 2.23*. held by Major Lind, by Major Woofworth. GREAT PERFORMANCE This was a great performance, for Call Boy is not two years old yet, and all previous best two-year-old performances have been made toward the end of the year, and with some seven months to go Call Boy should prove he is the best British-bred two-year-old pacer seen. The bay colt was bred in Glasgow, and is sired by Airman, his dam being a mare by King of Diamonds. A GOOD FAMILY Call Boy is full brother to those other good winners Lily G., who recently won the £l5O Easter Silver Cup Handicap at Audenshaw, pacing a 2.23 gait as a three-year-old and the four-year-old Saucy Sue. Call Boy in the last month of 1926, very easily reduced the mile British yearling record to 2.43.
