SICK-BENEFIT PAYMENTS LEGISLATION ASKED FOR (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter .) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Two questions bearing on the Municipal Corporations Act were asked in the House this afternoon by Mr. D. G. Sullivan, Avon. The Minister of Internal Affairs was asked whether the Act could be amended this session so that local bodies would bo authorised to subsidise their employees’ sick benefit funds. Mr. Sullivan said the AuditorGeneral had intimated that such subsidies were not legal as the Act now stood. The Hon. R. F. Bollard said the Municipal Conference had passed remits in the direction mentioned by Mr. Sullivan, and the desired provision Avould probably be made when the Act was next being amended. He could not say, however, whether an amending bill would be introduced this session. Mr. Sullivan also gave notice to ask the Minister whether it was his intention to introduce legislation increasing the amount which local bodies may spend under the heading of unauthorised expenditure.
