LORNA DOONE

COMING RIGHT AGAIN TO RACE AT ELLERSLIE When Lorna Doone won at her first start before the public, at Takapuna in the spring, it came as a genuine surprise to the majority of racegoers, although no doubt the success of the filly was fully anticipated in the right quarter, despite the very fine return she gave, for she was fifth favourite in a field of six. The going was heavy, and the way in which she beat the field pointless created a most favourable impression. This was confirmed on the second day of the fixture, when Lorna Doone scored with almost as much ease as in her first outing. A bright future was forecasted for the Tea Tray—Lassie Doon filly, but Fate in the form of a cold caused her to be eased. It was a long time before she shook off the effects of this malady, and according to accounts from Te Aroha Lorna Doone is now coming back into racing shape. NOT IN THE CLASSIC The two-year-old is not in the classic on Easter Saturday, and will not make her appearance until Easter Monday, when she may be allowed to take her chance in the juvenile handicap event, and the following Saturday there is a chance that she may be allowed to take her place in the field for the All Aged Stakes, the popular sprint classic at the Avondale fixture. Her trainer, H. Eva, has been very patient with the filly, and one can only wish him the good luck he deserves for his handling of Lorna Doone under difficult circumstances. The Te Aroha trainer is to bring Flying Juliet to Ellerslie to contest the Oaks, and as R, Reed has been engaged to pilot her she may make a show against Lady Desmond and Phaola. H. Eva will also be represented here by Master O’Rorke and the promising hack. Whaka King.
