Free School Books.—Authority to supply free stationery as as free class-books to children of poor parents is being asked for by the Auckland Education Board. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, stated to-day that there was a necessity for this help in Auckland. New Zealand Cricket.—On arrival in Sydney, all members of the Melbourne cricket team spoke highly of the hospitality shown them in New Zealand. They also commented on the great advance made by cricket in the Dominion.—A. and N.Z. Petty Thefts.—Before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., at Pukekohe, Walter Donald McGahan, of Tuakau, was charged with the theft of a tyre and chain, valued at £1 9s 4d, and a plough chain, valued at ss. Accused was remanded until May 4. Immigrants Arrive.—The Limited from Wellington, which arrived at Auckland this morning, carried a larger number of passengers than she has for some days past. Included among the passengers was a number of immigrants from the Tainui and 60 boys for Flock House. The Flock House boys left the train at Frankton Junction.
