SKI-ING ON EGMONT

Stratford Mountain Club

SEASON'S FIRST OUTING

A select company, formed of nine members of the Stratford Mountain Club enjoyed the first day's ski-ing of the new season on Egmont on Sunday.

The sight of the mountain covered to the houses with new snow on Saturday lured them to the Manganui Hut the next day, but there they found, to their disappointment, that a heavy thaw had forestalled them and that only a few patches of sloppy snow remained on the carefully propared ski-ing tracks, where, the day before, there must have been about six inches or more. The weather was cold and windy, with occasional showers, but after lunch, with skis well waxed, five members set off in a driving hail storm in search of snow. On slopes below the Policeman they found their requirements and put in some practice. The last lot returned to the hut at 4 p.m., very wet, but expressing themselves well pleased with the condition of the snow and skiing in general.
