LOSS THROUGH RACING
Purser's Theft ADMITTED TO PROBATION Pv.«oo Association—Copyright Wellington, Today. Frederick Spencer Hamlin, who for the last six months has been attached to the S.S. Maori as a purser, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court today to a charge of stealing sums of totalling £SB 15s, the property of the Union Steam Ship Company. He was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to make restitution. « •
It was stated by the police that accused's duties had involved the collection and handling of money on behalf cf the company, and on two occasions he had converted money to his own use.
On one occasion lie had gone to races and had lost the lot. When approached by the police he had frankly admitted the offence.
