DAIRY COWS POISONED

CATTLE VALUED AT £l5O FARMER SENT FOR TRIAL PORT FAIRY (Victoria), Sept. 22. A case of unusual interest was heard in the local court on Tuesday, when William (leorge Albert McSween, of Rosebrook, was charged with having at Rosebrook, between April 24 and 29, 1921, maliciously killed 12 dairy cows, the property of William Henry Smith. The case arose out of the finding by Smith, a dairy farmer, of Rosebrook, of a. number of his cows dead in his paddocks between April 25 and 29. The value of (he cattlfi was £1(10. Evidence for the prosecution alleged (hat the cows bad been poisoned with arsenic, the stomach contents of the animals and lucerne hay in Smith’s paddocks showing traces of the poison. It was also alleged that difference of opinion had occurred Between Smith and McSween, and that alleged threats had been made by accused. Accused was committed, for trial.
