STRATFORD FIRE BRIGADE

CUP FINALS The finals of the Summerfield and Aitkeu Cups were run off last night by the Stratford Fire Brigade, the competitions taking place on the street. The Summerfield Cup was presented for competition by Mr. H. Summerfield in 1930; the conditions being the best three fastest times in four runs. Four teams were entered, and the final run last night resulted in a win for Fireman D. Butcher’s team (Firemen Butcher, Boyd, Reeves and foreman Cummins), the time being 30 seconds. This team secured the cup with an aggregate of 88 4-ssec.', the fastest times being 27 4-ssec, 31sec, and 30sec. Foreman W. Brocklebank’s team was runner-up, with an aggregate of 92 2-ssec. Deputy-Super-intendent E. Brocklebank’s team won the cup last year. The Aitken Cup was presented by Mr. P. Aitken some years ago and is competed for annually. Eighteen out of 19 members of the brigade competed in this dry-coupling event. Very fast times were recorded. Foreman W. Brocklebank and Fireman Butcher tied from scratch in 50sec, and the former won in the run-off. The work last, night was of a very high standard, being fast and clean, and no penalty was incurred by any of the competitors.
