STRATFORD TENNIS CLUB

OPENING DAY NEXT THURSDAY The committee of the Stratford Tennis Club have decided to open the

courts officially on Thursday, November 15, and the Mayor, Mr. P. Thomson, is to be asked to perform the ceremony in the afternoon. An invitation to members of sister clubs to attend is being sent by the secretary. A dance will be held in the Medina in the evening. There was a long discussion on the problem of providing afternoon tea, and the ladies' committee met the general committee and discussed the position. As a result, it is hoped that the arrangement made will prove more equitable than in the past. The pairs competition rules were drawn up for the season. A general complaint from young players that they do not get much chance to play the seujors, and so improve in their play was also discussed. It was pointed out that there were opportunities of the kind in the handicap matches, Ranford Buttons and Walter Cup, but these were not considered satisfactory by many of the juniors. Eventually a scheme was drawn up which the captain will superintend as a try-out, in the hope that it will give satisfaction. The opinion was expressed that, generally speaking, the meeting of junior and senior players does not provide good practice for either, and that the best game was secured by matching players a fairly even standard. It was resolved that no singles matches be played on Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays, unless started before 2 p.m., except with the permission of the committee. Notice of motion was given that the club lay down another asphalt court at the back of No. 6 court.
