WHEN THE EARTH SHOOK

A THRILLING EARTHQUAKE STORY The Stratford Post has pleasure in announcing that Mr. W. Graeme-I-lolder's new story, "When the Earth Shook," has been obtained by the Stratford Post, and will be published as a serial commencing on Monday next. The scene is laid in Taranaki, and the Napier earthquake in February last plays a thrilling part in the development of the plot. There is a strong love interest, but little sentimentalising, and it can be said with confidence that it is one of the best seriails ever published in New Zealand. Mr. Graeme Holder, as is well known, is author of "The Decker," published by John Lane, London, and which proved a "best seller." "When the Earth Shook" will be published in book form later by the same firm, with whom Mr. Holder has a contract to write sundry other books. This is a story entirely different from

"The Decker," aud is one that will appeal to men and women alike. The author is now revising the final chapters, and publication will begin in The Post on Monday. Arrangements are being completed for the publication of the serial in one or two metropolitan papers in New Zealand, but The Post 4s first in the field. Readers of the Central Taranaki will have the opportunity of reading the story in their own local paper before it is sent to the publishers in London, to whom another copy of the MS will be forwarded next week. The securing of this story is a further proof of the determination or the proprietors of The Post to give their readers the best possible service. We have made many forward moves in the past and have won out, and are finding that our departure from the usual methods of conducting a newspaper are being appreciated and our policy of publishing and paying for original literary matter is justified.
