TRADE AGREEMENT

GERMANY AND AUSTRIA EUROPEAN FEDERATION PLAN STEP TOWARDS REALISATION BERLIN, March 21. Dr. Curtiss (Foreign Secretary) announces the conclusion of a preliminary Austro German agreement relating to a future customs union. It is stated in Berlin that, its purpose is to take the first step towards the realisation of M. Briaud’s plan.. Each country retains its entire independence, also the right to conclude commercial treaties with other states having regard o each other's interests, and wherever possible conducting suck negotiations jointly.

The customs administration will remain separate. The agreement is binding for three years, and six months’ notice is required for denunciation.

The British Government’s view of M. Briand’s plan is that the purpose which the ITonrh Government has in view can be effectively secured by so adapting the proposals put forward as to bring them fully within the framework of I lie League of Nations.
