MAGISTRATE’S COURT

STRATFORD SITTING. The fortnightly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at Stratford to-day before Mr. R. W, Tate, S.M. JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT. Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the following undefended civil cases: B David (Mr Coleman) v. Mrs Wipiti £l2 3s, t/jsts £3 18s; Burgess Frazer and Co (Mr. Moss) v. V. Nesbit, £5 19s, costs £1 10s 6d. AGAIN ADJOURNED. The case of Jack Kdlehcr was called, having been previously adjourned for three months to allow of the return of stolen property. Mr. Moss appeared for accused. Sergeant Power said accused did not return to work at Tangarakau, but went to the railway works- at the Ohura end. He had promised to ■write to Constable Whiting, but had failed to do so. A further adjournment for a month was granted to enable the police to get into touch with accused. ■ Sergeant Power stated, that tho property had been returned. , TROUBLE AT A DANCE. , Evelyn William O’Keefe appeared, on a charge of having assaulted! F. W. Wall at Midhirst on April 27th. A plea of guilty was entered. Sergeant Power said the assault took place at a dance! at Midhirst, as a result of a dispute as'to whether .or not Wall had paid for admission. Wall had been pushed off his motor cycle ais ho left for home. O’Keefe admitted afterwards that lie had made a mistake. The S.M. said these alt creations ~at country dances were quite wrong, and had the effect of keeping people away from such functions. Tho question of penalty would bo adjourned for three months, and, if the police report was favourably, the matter would bo dealt with a s leniently as possible. Defendant was ordered to pay costs l £1 3s .•
