OPENING OF SPOHTSDALB CLUB. Thp official opening of the Sportsdale Tennis Club was held at tho club's courts on Saturday. The weather- conditions were exceptionally good and there were a large number of members present. In declaring the courts open for the season,, the president, Mr. E. H. Young, said that the excellent conditSon in which the grounds had been kept was due to the activities of Mr. Newell, of the grounds committee and that he desired to thank Mr. Newel! for the amount ox good work he had done. • He also said that the cups presented, for the ladies' last year by Mrs. B. H. Y'oung ) were now open for matches and he hoped that they would be keenly competed for. A committee was formed by the ladies for the purpose of'making the necessary ai-rangements for matches, afternoon tea and any general, duties which were to be carried out. Games were then indulged Ift and thje good state of the courts enabled a fairly high standard of play to be attained. On the whole, a rery successful and enjoyable afternoon was spent by all present.
