Plunket Flower Show

ANNUAL. MEETING. There was a representative attendance of members and others at the annual meeting of the Plunket flower show last evening. Dr. Doris Gordon (president) was in the chair. The balance-sheet read by the secretary (Mrs L. Curtis) showed a credit balance of £44 3s sd. This was regarded as satisfactory. In moving the adoption of the report, Dr. ’Gordon congratulated the retiring committee on the very good oliort made for the first show. Considering the difficulties, climatic and otherwise, associated wlith the work, the balance-sheet disclosed ja very creditable state of affairs. More interest in the general cultivation of flowers was now being shown, and the enthusiasm already aroused would ensure greater support in connection with the next show. The president was sure that provided better weather prevailed, the next show would be in every way an improvement. With the experience’ gained, the future was hopeful. Mr Ward, in seconding the motion said that considering the show was a first effort the result was encouraging. The Plunket Society ladies were to be congratulated for having stepped into the breach in starting the flower show. He paid a high tribute to the keen interest and practical work done by Dr. Gordon, as much of the success was owing to her untiring efforts. At this stage Dr Gordon vacated the chair, Mr Ward being unanimously voted chairman. With regard to dates for the next Show the 21st and 22nd February was chosen.

Mrs L. Curtis was rc-apointod secretary pro, tem up to December next. Dr, Gordon mentioned that three valnabe trophies had been promised for the show, and there was every indication that other prizes would be forthcoming. She would like to have a good prize for every section. With regard to the appointment of a committee, it was decided that those present should form themselves into a committee with power to add to their number. On tbo subject of homo industries, it waj» decided to give the executive power to delete the homo industries section, in order to provide space. It was also decided that no “late entries” should ho received. On the motion of Mr Ward a hearty vote of thanks was accorded all who in any way assisted at tbo last show, and to the press. Other details relating to the more efficient working of the show wore then discussed and dealt with at a committee meeting.
