RATES BY POWER BOARD. Exception i s being taken to clause four of the Electric Power Boards Amendment Bill, which gives power to make separate rates within defined portions of an. electric power district, provided that no such defined portion shall lx; a constituent district or any part of a constituent district of which the local authority is the holder of a license. New Plymouth and Stratford are in the position that they have licenses already issued under the existing Act and the new Bill would place them in the position that if they did not accept power from the Power Board at the wholesale rate then the ‘board would have power to rate them at ah amount it thought fit. Mr S. G. Smith, M.P. and Mr R. Masters, M.P.. have interested themselves iu the matter and the Minister has promised that he will delete the portion of clause four which makes the provision obligatory and substitute a proviso which will have the effect of making the previous consent of New Plymouth and Stratford necessary.
