After a change of pleasant weather we have returned to the old order of things—rain, cold winds, etc., and this, combined w|th no grass, makes things a tit hard for stock.. Fortunately most farmers around here have good stocks of hay and root crops.

The local factory commenced cheese making on Ist August, and have been running daily since the 13th inst. The local ladles gave 'a return Ball on the 14th inst, and for once were blessed with a fine night. A busy band of tho ladies' committee got together, and with the help of a few of the men decorated the hall which was the'subject of many flattering remarks at the ball. Tho music was supplied toy Mrs Bianchi's orchestra and was up to its usual pitch of perfection. Miss I. Leyden and Miss A. Fabish fulfilled the role of MC.'s to the satisfaction of all, and wore untiring In their efforts to see that one and all had an enjoyable evening. Tho supper, which was povlded by tho ladles, was In bountiful supply, and was done ample justice to, surpassing anything provided for a long time at the Hall.

I am pleased to bo able to report that Mr J. B. Jamieson has resumed work again after being con lined to his bed for a few days as the result of suffering a fall out of his dray. The 'flu is the. cause of a good deal of sickness out here at present,
