RELIGIOUS FACTIONS FIGHT,
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY.

The Muharram celebrations have concluded. They resulted in serious riots in the Sanaranpur and Gonda united provinces. Large casual ticifs, with destruction of property, are reported.
Hindus' shops were looted at both places, and the police were compelled to fire to restore order.
Minor fracas are reported at Ahmedabad, Calcutta., Amritsar, Nejlore, and Mainby, between the and Sun nisi sections of Islam.
At Sanaranpur a riot of a most serious character wafc caused by the insistence by tho Mohamedans to top the branches of a sacred tree at the Hindu Temple overhanging tho street, with a view that the carrying of processional flags should not bo interrupted. The Hindus resisted, whereupon the temple was attacked and shops looted. A free fight' ensiued.
Tension is high, but tho situation is in hand.
