By mutual consent the final day's singles pairing in the Davis Cup contest Australia versus France was changed to Anderson against Hirsch and Mclnnes against Lacoste. Miss Helen Wills, of California, is* the new -woman's tennis champion of America, defeating Mrs Mallory 6—2, 6—l, in the final of the championship tournament. Miss Wills is seventeen years of age; Mrs Mallory has been seven time*' champion of .America, but Miss Wills completely outplayed her throughout the match, throwing her off her game by skilful stroking and strategic placements, which forced the voteran to scramble widely over the whole back court like a novice, and she smiled sadly at the "realisation titat her long reign had ended.
