Sounds Sensation.
SHEEP-STEALING BY WOMEN. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Per Prop.!' Association. Blenheim. August 16. Three women of Pelonis Sound named CampVll. a mother and her two young daughters, wero committed for sentence on of sheepstealing and receiving. There were also several charges of theft. Tho facts showed that the elder woman ran a s/mall farm in the Sounds. The two daughters (aged 19 and 20) on several occasions rowed to neighbouring properties in tho night and stole sheep; returned home,, and. shore, slaughtered, and dressed them. They were also responsible for a series of depredations on empty houses in the Sounds. Thev were arraigned on eight charges of breaking and entering, and theft, all being reduced to common theft. The Court room resembled a sec-ond-hand shop, with the allegedly stolen goods. In several cases- the owners failed to satisfactorily identify the articles.
