The council ■ of the "''Wellington Chamber of Commerce has elected Mr John Myers, president and Mr S. A. Longuet vice-president for the ensuing year.—Press Association.

The death took place to-day at the residence of her daughter at Huiroa of Mrs Sarah Myers, widow of the late Mr P. W. Myers, of Huiakama. The funeral will leave the Skinner Road railway station on arrival of the Toko train at about 12.45 p.m. on Friday for the Kopuatama Cemetery. A complimentary banquet was tendered at Palmerston North on Monday evening by-Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., to Mr R. S. Abraham,' oft' his retirement from the position of general manager of l he company. Mr Abraham was presented with a gold watch from the directorate and staff. He will continue as chairman Qf the board.

A London Press Association cablegram states that the Prince of Wales is visiting and carefully examining the various points on the battlefields, including Hyde Park Corner, Passchendaele. The ground in many places is still littered with great piles of unexplored shells, helmets and rusty barbed wire.

The death is recorded by Press Association telegram from Ashburton of Mr Frank Burgon Standish, aged 87, who arrived in New Zealand in 1844. He claims blood ties with Miles Standish, the leader of the Puritan Fathers. He was a Maori War veteran and saw considerable war service round New Plymouth. He was a well-known Canterbury pioneer.

Dr John Adams, Professor of Education at the University of London, the leading British educationalist of the present day, has been asked to visit New Zealand to give addresses in the four chief centres. Dr Adams is shortly proceeding tn California under an engagement to the State University and high schools, to discuss the development of the junior high schools system. He is then to go t(> South Africa and Australia. The Invitation to New Zealand was sent by the Director of Education at the instance of the Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Education), who stated to-day that he was keen to get the views of such an eminent authority on the Junior high . school system, which wag.recently Introduced here,
