ACCUSED REMANDED.

Three burglaries occurred on Saturday night—at Oldbury’s gunsmith shop, Queen Street, where six revolvers a»d ammunition valued at £l2 were stolen; at the Government Oyster Depot, where the cast-iron safe was wrecked by an explosive, and the cash, contents bios) stolen; and at New Lynn post office, where the safe was blown open by gelignite, and .the contents <(£s6 19s in postal notes and £22, in cash) stolen. A fourth suspect, Patrick Gunn, aged 22, was arrested early this morning, on a charge of being concerned in the Now Lynn burglary. .Tames Davorn (2D) and Edward James McLelland (21) came before Mr Cullen, S.M., to-day, on charges of having broken and entered W. E, Hutchison’s, N.Z. Bacon Co.’s, and Electrical Construction Company’s premises. They were remanded for eight days. Charles McCormack, 1.8, was charged with breaking and entering Oldbury’s shop on Saturday, and McCormack and Gunn were charged with breaking and entering the New Lynn post office. . They also were remanded till Tuesday next week, bail being refused.

WAR RISKS’ INSURANCE. Palmerston N., September 16. A special meeting of the Palmerston Chamber of Commerce this, morning decided; in view of the probable serious curtailment of coastal shipping between Wellington and Foxton and other North Island west coast ports owing to the risks of floating enemy mines, that additional trawlers be provided to sweep the minefields, and that, in order to allow the trade of ports affected to be carried on, the Covernmcnt should arrange an insurance against war risks. MINES WASHED UP. Wellington, September 16. The Naval Adviser (Captain Hall Thompson) advises that an enemy mihe was washed up on the west coast of the North Island, about four miles south of Cape Maria vap Diemen. Another was found drifting off the coast in the vicinity of Capo Brett. k Both mines have been secured, and the necessary steps taken to destroy them.
