DRILL FOR CADETS. Sydney, December 6 In’ the 4 Senate Mr Pearce introduced a Bill materially reducing the hours of drill for senior cadets. Complaints bad poured in from parents that the work is too strenuous. STATE COAL MINES. Sydney, December 6. The net profits of the Government’s coal mines at Wonthaggi for the year are £24,101, and the gross output 396,0-12 tons.
MINERS PHTHISIS. Perth, December 6. The Miners’ Phthisis Commission’s report recommended compulsory medical examination of miners before employment, and medical examination of all miners every six months. Miners medically rejected are to be sent to sanatoria at the State’s expense. • Miners claim that the State is bound to find employment for medically rejected men, and a miners’ insurance trust will be established. Miners and owners state they will each contribute a third of the premiums. Miners will receive free attention and medicine. The report was tabled in the Assembly.
