MAORI WELCOME HOME Two welcome home socials have been held recently by the Haere Tonu Maori Party in honour of some of their members who have returned from overseas, these being Privates J. S. Ryan, R. W. Cleamson and W. West, former prisoners of war, Gunner R. Morris, of the Merchant Navy, and Private R. Ashwell.
On their arrival at the hall, escorted by the president of the Haere Tonu party, Mr T. Spencer, the guests of honour were given a rousing welcome with traditional ceremonial by members of the party, followed by action songs of welcome. The servicemen were welcomed by the president, Mr Spencer, who presented each one with a gift and the Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick, also spoke. The wives and mothers of the returned men each received a /shoulder spray. During the evening various action songs were given by the concert party, these being greatly appreciated by the large crowd. VITAL STATISTICS.— VitaI statistics for Bluff for the month of July, With those of the same month last year in parentheses, were:—Births, 6 (1); deaths, 2 (1); marriages, 0 (0).
