BUSY DAYS AT POST OFFICE
CHRISTMAS RUSH SETS IN Employees at the Chief Post Office have this week had a foretaste of the Christmas business rush which will take place next week. Throughout this week there has been a steady increase in business in practically all departments. The staff of the telephone exchange has had.to deal with a noticeable increase in calls, both local and toll. During the past 10 days telegraph traffic, both qutward and inward, has shown a considerable increase and the staff of the telegraph branch has been enlarged in preparation for the peak of the Christmas business, which is expected towards the end o’f next week. The mail room staff and the postmen’s staff are also being augmented to deal with the Christmas rush of mail matter. This has already set in, there having been a marked increase in the size of both outward and inward mails during the past few days. The staff at the postal counters have had a busy week. However, much heavier mails will have to be handled next week and the public is strongly urged to post early in the week in order to ensure delivery in time for Christmas.
