Commercial OTAGO PRODUCE MARKETS

STRONG INQUIRY FOR FOWL WHEAT (P.A.) DUNEDIN, December 15. There is a strong inquiry for good lines of fowl wheat, which are in short supply, but as deliveries of all grades of wheat are practically finished for the season there is little likelihood of any easing of the position. Oats are also inquired for, but the market is bare of supplies and merchants are experiencing difficulty in securing even small quantities for the local trade. Chaff supplies are equal to the and there is no alteration in values, which remain at up to £7/10/- a ton. There has been a complete clearance of stocks of old potatoes this year and there will be no carry over in either table or seed lines. The continued wet weather is interfering with the digging of new potatoes and consequently there is a dearth of supplies. The interest of merchants is at present centred in the prospects for the new crop rather than in dealing in last season’s lines. For the year just ending there will be practically no carryover in either grass or clover seeds. There is no alteration in values to record, what small demand there is being at the rates that have ruled over recent months. The continuance of the wet conditions of the past few weeks is holding back the growth of all cereal crops, which at this critical stage need heat and sunshine. There is every appearance now of a backward season and a late harvest. CHRISTMAS POULTRY SALE Full Entry Of Table Fowls Ducks, geese and poultry were in short supply and high prices were obtained at the first sale of Christmas poultry held at the Rialto yesterday. There was a full entry of table fowls and competition for all lines was keen.
