INDUSTRIAL APPEALS
SITTING OF COMMITTEE
Appeals against the direction of the manpower officer were considered at a sitting of the Industrial Manpower Appeal Committee yesterday. The board consisted of Messrs M. W. Grantham (chairman), A. Mcßae and H. H. Gillard. The secretary was Mr J. C. Bates and the District Manpower Officer, Mr A. J. Peterson, was also present. The following appeals were considered:—
A. C. Millars, Ltd., appealed against the direction of Miss M. B. McGrath to the Civil Nursing Reserve.—Decision was reserved. Frank Albert Christian appealed against the refusal of permission sought by him to end his employment with the Willett Implements Co., Ltd. The case was adjourned, the appeal to be referred back to the utilization committee concerned.
Cameron and Finn, Ltd., Tuatapere, appealed against the direction that Eric L. J. Souness, managing director of the company, should accept employment with the Tuatapere Dairy Factory Company as a factory assistant.—Decision was reserved.
James A. Anderson, at present employed by Mr C. McKay, Glencoe, appealed against a direction that he should accept employment with Birch and Co., Ltd., as a bushman.
The appeal was allowed, the appellant to report to the manpower officer for direction to an industry where accommodation is available for married couples. P. M. Bulling appealed against his direction to the Ocean Beach freezing works a« a slaughterman. It was stated that the appellant was employed as a milk vendor at Riverton and in addition he did six hours work a week killing for Thomson Bros., Riverton.- He had been a slaughterman for seven years.—Decision was reserved, the appellant to be medically examined. Roland McKenzie, farmer of Woodlands, appealed against the direction of Charles King to the Makarewa freezing works as a slaughterhouse assistant. The appeal was not allowed. . . „ , ... Braithwaite to the Ocean Beach freezing works as a slaughterman.—The appeal was n °W. al lrvine, baker, of Edendale, appealed asainst the direction of Edna M. Phelan to the Civil Nursing Division.-Decision was reserved.
