SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED
WAIKAKA.— There was a good attendance in the public hall at Walkaka when a social evening was given In honour of Private D. Baxter. An excellent musical programme was given and later a dance was held. Mr H. Horrel], sen., on behalf of the Church of England, presented Private Baxter with a copy of the Book qf Common Prayer. Before the social was held Private Baxter had received a monetary gift from the residents of the district. HAPPY VALLEY— On Saturday evening a large crowd gathered in the Happy Valley school at a function in honour of Private Avon Procter. Other soldiers present were Privates F. Pemiskie, Ivan Burse, Peter Whyte (Pukemaori) and Ivan Hodges. Mr R. King spoke on behalf of the residents and presented Private Procter with a leather hold-all and writing case and a parcel of knitted comforts. Mr W. F. Harrison also expressed good wishes.
