HOT MEAL FOR HOME GUARDSMEN

Home Guardsmen on manoeuvres yesterday were served with a hot meal which was cooked by members of the Invercargill W.W.S.A. This was the third occasion on which the association has provided a meal for the men, and as it was served piping hot it was welcomed and appreciated by them. The meal was a typical Army one, being a ration of stew. On Saturday afternoon 2351 b of beef, 1501 b of potatoes and 801 b of fresh vegetables were prepared by the women at a kitchen in the city, and yesterday the meal was cooked. The food was sent out in hot boxes to the area in which 470 guardsmen were operating. Tea was provided as usual by the company quartermasters. Today the W.W.S.A. will cook a meal for competitors in the golf tournament at Queen’s Park. It will be for about 60 or 70 persons and will be cooked in a field kitchen under emergency conditions.
