FIGHTING QUALITIES PRAISED

NEW ZEALAND TROOPS IN LIBYA (P.A.) WELLINGTON, February 27. An unstinted tribute was paid by Lieutenant-Colonel J. R. Page to the New Zealand troops in Libya. “They fought magnificently in the battle for Sidi Rezegh," he said, “and upheld the prestige of the silent division.” Old soldiers would know what that meant. They were very fit and well trained for desert warfare.

Lieutenant-Colonel Page was wounded in the lung during the final assault on Sidi Rezegh. He was evacuated from Greece and subsequently occupied a defence post on the Suez Canal. He mentioned that it was an Auckland battalion that captured the famous German panzer general, Ravenstein.
