I.R.A.—The following is an extract from Vice-Admiral de Robeck’s despatch on the landing on Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25-26, 1915: “The troops to be first landed, The King’s Own Scottish Borderers, embarked on April 24 in the Amethyst and Sapphire, and proceeded with the transports Southland and Braemar Castle to a position off Cape Tekeh (Y. beach). At 4.0 a.m. the boats proceeded to Y beach, timing their arrival there at 5 a.m. and pulled ashore, covered by fire from H.M.S. Goliath.” We cannot discover in any records of the war the number of Irish soldiers killed. g
