NEW SUPERINTENDENT OF FIRE BRIGADE

MR JOHN PHILP’S RECORD

I Mr John Philp, A.M.I. Fire E., who will begin his duties as superintendent of the Invercargill Fire Brigade on Monday, has been connected with fire brigades in New’Zealand since 1926. Mr Philp was bom in Scotland 40 years ago and came to New Zealand in 1926. He joined the Wellington Fire Brigade in that’ year as a probationer fireman and subsequently rose through the various ranks and executive positions to become deputy superintendent in,'1939. He is the holder of associate and full members’ diplomas of the Officers and Members Institute of Fire Engineers (N.Z.) and is a graduate and associate member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, Great Britain. In the latter examination he had the honour of heading the overseas list.
