SEASON FOR GODWITS

OPENING NOT POSSIBLE Mr W. M. C. Denham, M.P.„ has received the following telegram from the Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal .Affairs, replying to a request that the season for the shooting of godwits be reopened:— “Godwits are absolutely protected under the Animal Protection and Game Act. An open season cannot, of course, be considered. The placing of the godwit on the ab. Mutely protected list’was a New Zealand centennial .gesture on the part of shooters and others interested in the bird and its wonderful migrating habits annually to and from New Zealand. All agreed that this wonderful bird should have a free home in New Zealand.”
