EDENDALE TOWN BOARD

At the monthly meeting of Edendale Town Board, the application of W. Thompson (Wyndham) for the position of dayman and nightsoil contractor to the board was accepted. lan M. Gower, one of the persons recently convicted for a breach of the motor traffic regulations in the town, wrote as follows:—“On December 4 I was charged with a breach of the bylaws of your Town Board by Mr Roberts, your inspector. Subsequent inquiries reveal that I have been wrongly convicted and also that, in the event of an appeal being lodged, your inspector would undoubtedly find the court’s previous c'onviction squashed. The grounds for this assertion are numerous, but among the most obvious is that fact that your inspector was not authorized by any proper authority to lay any such charge. Also that he failed to produce in court a sealed copy of the by-laws. By the foregoing remarks I conclude that your board is responsible for inconvenience and expense to me and I ask for the sum of 17/-, which pays the fine and court costs, but does in no way fully reimburse ■ me. I trust you will grant my request and thus help to right the wrong so unwittingly committed.” The letter was received without comment.

A brief discussion took place on the question of repairing potholes on the bitumen roads in the town. It was stated that a resident had the gear for doing such work, and it was decided to ask the County Council to approach the Highways Board with a view to having this work done locally before the potholes became too large.
