Wellington Stakes
Founded in 1897 the classic two-year-old event the Wellington Stakes has seldom been won by a moderate youngster. One of the first winners was Silkworm, a galloper subsequently owned in Southland as a castoff from Mr G. G. Stead’s team, writes Sir Modred. The list of winners embraces many names familiar to the racing public, including Solution, Fleetfoot, Culprit,' Reputation, Desert Gold, Gloaming, Thespian, Razzle Dazzle, Paganelli, Ammon Ra. Mala. Beaulivre and Nizam.
