HUGE SHELL DRIER

MACHINERY FOR LIME WORKS A shell drier, which will be easily the largest in Southland and one of the largest in New Zealand, is being sent from Dunedin by rail to Invercargill during the week-end. This piece of machinery, which will take up three railway trucks, is destined for the Fernhills lime works now in the course of construction. It weighs between seven and eight tons and was built by a Dunedin firm. It will be railed to Kauana and transported to Fernhills by road as the railway siding to the works is not yet. completed. The Fernhills Lime Company expects to begin operations in January. So heavy is the demand for lime in Southland that already orders for thousands of tons have been received, the delivery dates being spread throughout 1942.
