N.Z. LEGATION IN WASHINGTON
EARLY APPOINTMENT OF MINISTER
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 14
The appointment of a Minister’ from New Zealand to open the legation in '.’/ashington will be made before Christmas. That reply was given today by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, when he was questioned. A recent cable message reported that a residence and quarters for the legation had been acquired in Washington and that they adjoined the British Embassy. The purchase was made on behalf of the Government by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone. Mr Langstone left the Dominion early this year- on a wax’ purchasing mission to the United States and he was accompanied by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates a.; a member of the War Cabinet. Mr Coates has now been back in the Dominion for some months, and Mr Langstone’s return, which was expected to take place early in November, was deferred when he was appointed the representative of the New Zealand Government at the conference of the International Labour Office in New York. Asked whether any date had been fixed for the return of Mr Langstone to New Zealand, Mr Fraser said he had not received any advice.
