SCHOOL BOYS AND FARM WORK
“In view of the great shortage of labour in the country, is any concerted effort being made to assist farmers by arranging for secondary schoolboys to take up work in the country during the summer holidays?” asked Mr L. S. Alsweiler at the meeting of the Southland Technical College Board last night. The principal (Mr C. A. Stewart): There is a good deal of independence in such matters. Parents and boys like to make their own arrangements. On the recommendation of Mr Stewart it was decided that, because of the call for boy labour, especially on farms, the college should fall in with the arrangement made by the high schools and hold its break-up and prize-giving ceremony on December 12.
