GORDON BEATS RAYNER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 23. Clarrie Gordon, the brilliant Auckland professional boxer, by outpointing Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim) over 12 rounds before a large house at the Wellington Town Hall tonight maintained his unbeaten record since joining the paid ranks and won the right to be hailed as the premier professional lightweight boxer of the Dominion at the present time. It was one of the fastest and cleverest lightweight matches seen here. Both moved fast and showed brilliant footwork and sound defence. Rayner fought at his best, but was, beaten to the punch by a younger and faster opponent, who used both hands to good effect, though Rayner’s footwork and head-weaving caused him to miss frequently, particularly with the right. ____________
