PRICE OF ELECTRIC POWER

EFFECT OF STABILIZATION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, September 22. The effect of price stabilization on electric power boards was discussed in a letter received by the Waitemata Electric Power Board from the Electric Power Boards , and Supply Authorities Association. It was stated that in the meantime it appeared that the price at which electricity would be sold would be stabilized under the Price Stabilization Emergency Regulations probably at the points in operation today, and that if any rise in price was required by any authority at a later date it would have to come before the Price Tribunal. However, in the event of a rise in price being agreed to by the tribunal, the difference would be met by Government subsidy and an order would be made restraining a power board or supply authority making application from actually raising its prices, in other words, stated the association, where previously authority would have been given for a rise in prices, it was understood that undei - the new arrangement this would be withheld and a subsidy granted instead. TRAM FARES AFFECTED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 22. To remove what it considered an anomaly in its fares, the Christchurch Tramway Board early last week raised from 9d to lOd the return fares on three of its runs, New Brighton, Redcliffs and to Racecourse road on the North Beach trip. The Price Tribunal heard of it and pointed out to the board that no application had been made for an increase. The general manager of the board (Mr H. E. Jarman) immediately brought the fares back to 9d and the board has since put in a formal application for an increase. The Price Stabilization Order recently announced by the Minister of Finance included tram fares.
