TAR-SEALING FOR LOCHIEL

The main road through the township of Lochiel may shortly be tar-sealed if recommendations to the Main Highways Board are approved. The board has already agreed to seal 12 chains of State highway, six chains on each side of the Lochiel dairy factory, to reduce the dust nuisance to the factory. A request for extension of that work past the store and butcher’s shop to the south side of the small channel bridge has been forwarded to the board for consideration; and the Southland County Council has agreed to contribute £2B/12/-, representing the cost of surfacing the whole of the intersection of the Forest Hill crossing road out to the highway boundaries.
