NEW MOON ON ITS BACK
FINE OR BAD WEATHER? The new moon has come in on its back and directly above is a particularly bright star. Both these circumstances have a special significance for old Maori weather prophets. The moon on its back is said to foretell a fine spell, as it holds the water within its arc, whereas the presence of the bright star directly above is said to presage bad weather. And so the weather in the near future may prove which of these omens is correct.
