PAYMENT OF RATES
TOTAL GREATER THAN LAST YEAR’S Up to the hour when the City Council office closed yesterday afternoon a sum of £24,894 had been paid in rates for the current financial year. This compares with £23,855 at the corresponding date last year The rate levy this year is, however, higher. In round figures it is £lOO,OOO compared with £96,000 last year. Ratepayers who wish to benefit from the 2j per cent, discount must pay their rates by August 30. The amount collected by the end of August last year was £41,000, so that a sum of over £16,000 will have to be paid in during the next three days to equal this figure. It is expected that there will be a considerable rush to pay rates during the next three days.
