ISLAY DOWNS DOES GOOD GALLOP SEVERAL SOUTHLAND ARRIVALS (Special) DUNEDIN, May 27. The Southland horses are beginning to arrive at Wingatui. J. N. Morton has Panara, Kippen, La Boca and Young Squatter on the scene, J. Cochrane, Aravane, Araboa, Rosaleen Dhu and Bashful Lady and P. J. Boyle, Merry Simon, Surcoat and Pride o’ Central.

There was not a great deal of galloping this morning. The outside of the course proper was a little faster. Bashful Lady took the honours of the morning. She came right away from Kohara with Invincible easing up over five furlongs in lmin 12 3-ssec. On her effort she looks sure to run prominently in the maiden events.

Islay Downs was too good for Straightdel and Raroa at the conclusion of a sound working gallop. If he would shape as well in a race he would take a lot of beating. Rosaleen Dhu put up a good school over four hurdles in company with Araboa, oßsaleen Dhu shows a lot of promise. Taxpayer looks very well at the moment and he appeared to be shaping better than his companion, Gay Lancer, at the finish of a six-furlong gallop.

R. A. Gibson will ride Aravane, Rosaleen Dhu and Bashful Lady on the first day at Wingatui and A. Leach may have the mount on Prince Flaneur. The weather is fine in Dunedin and a continuance of the conditions until Saturday would see a marked improvement in the going. Any further rain, however, will keep the track heavy.
