ROYAL LANCER UNDER OFFER

PRICE STATED TO BE £3OOO Royal Lancer, probably the best handicap horse to race in Southland, is under offer to a northern buyer. The price set by Mr W- Swale, his owner, was £3OOO, and it is expected that a reply will be received after the Dunedin meeting or perhaps before. It is probable that he will be taken to Dunedin, even though he has not been accepted for in the Birthday Handicap on the first day. Royal Lancer has shown great form this season and since winning a double at Dunedin in February has retained his form remarkably well. His outstanding performances were at Riverton at Easter, when he won three races. At the Birchwood Hunt meeting at Invercargill he went a good race in the heavy going and finished a close fourth. He then went north to Timaru, where he had a comfortable win in the Timaru Cup. In that race he gave weight to some of the best horses in the South Island, including Wardress and Prudent Prince, who had finished second and third to Iceland Spar in the Great Autumn. Chandelier

Chandelier, the Salmagundi-Bright-mark two-year-old in Mr W. E. Hazlett’s stable, has been given the minimum, 8 stone, in the Trial Stakes on the first day of the Dunedin wintermeeting on Saturday. Chandelier showed a lot of speed on the track in the spring, but he has been given only two runs in races this season, both at the Dunedin Christmas meeting, when he ran unplaced. Boaform One of the early favourites for the open sprint on the first day of the Dunedin meeting, Boaform will have every chance to show her class. For a horse who has proved her ability against the best class of sprinter in the south, she appears to be particularly well handicapped.

W. F. Ellis’s Mounts At the Dunedin meeting on Saturday W. F. Ellis will ride Cherokee, Sheeny and Waitoru. Norse

Norse has been handicapped as a winner in the Achilles Plate Handicap, to be run on the second day of the Dunedin winter meeting, though his owner did not get the stake in the Duke of Gloucester Cup race, says The Evening Star. He will meet Taxpayer on 111 b, Islay Downs on 111 b, Good Health on 131.1 b and Crack o’ Dawn on 121 b worse terms than in the Washdyke race. On the second day of the South Canterbury meeting Good Health was only beaten by a head over a mile and 35 yards by Eulogist in lmin 41 3-ssec, and finished very strongly from a long way back at the home turn. Taxpayer, who met with a lot of interference in the running at Washdyke, should be able to turn the tables on Norse at the difference in weights, but Good Health, a five-year-old gelding by Lord Warden from Jazz Girl, may prove his most troublesome opponent.

Master Dingle Master Dingle, who has been allotted 11.0 in the Otago Hurdles, to be run on Saturday, won both hurdle races at the Easter meeting at Riccarton, and carried 10.7 on the second day. He can handle soft going well, and on his recent return to winning form will be one of the fancied division in the Wingatui race. Master Dingle is now trained by F. Trilford.

Horses For Dunedin Several Southland horses left for Wingatui yesterday morning. They were the jumpers Spendthrift, Bally Brit, Lochcorrib and Polar Star. Heidelberg and Chandelier have also left, while most of the other horses will go north on Friday. Lucky Feather juucky Feather, who has gone in the wind, will not fulfil his engagements at the Dunedin meeting. Riccarton Jockeys For Wingatui It is reported that L. J. Ellis will have the mount on Prudent Prince in the Birthday Handicap on Saturday, and C. T. Wilson will ride Straightdell. P. Spratt and H. W. Hibberd have also announced their intention of coming south for the meeting.

Royal Money The form of Royal Money at Dunedin will be followed with keen interest by Southlanders. He won his first race in 38 starts at the recent Invercargill meeting and in his latest outings he has shown ability to stay. There is no reason why on his latest form he should not get in the money in the distance races at Dunedin.
