NO NUMBER-PLATES IN 1942
NEXT ISSUE AFTER THE WAR
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 27. There will be no new issue of num-ber-plates for motor-vehicles next yeax’ or for the duration of the war. In a lettex - to Mr S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, the acting Prime Minister, the Hon. W. Nash, says that the question of dispensing with the issue this year was investigated by the Transport Department, but it was found that manufacture was advanced to such a stage that it was better on the balance to complete the work and then to arrange for cessation. The manufacture of these plates was in the hands of one company and it had made its arrangements well ahead for all the materials necessary. Production started several months in advance of the date of deliveries and arrangements had been made for cessation fox - the duration of the war.
