DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSSES WON
TWO NEW ZEALANDERS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 27. Acting Flight Lieutenant W. S. Rea, who has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, was born in Paengaroa in 1915 and educated at the Mt. Albert Grammar School. He was selected for a short service comixxission in 1937 and after partial training with the Auckland Aero Club and at Wigram he left for England early in 1939. His mother is Mrs B. Page, Mt. Albert road, Auckland.
Flying Officer Gawith, who was also awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, was born in Masterton in 1916 and educated at Wellington and Nelson Colleges and at Victoria University College. He was a prominent member of the College Defence Rifle Club. He was selected fox’ a short-service commission in the Royal Air Force in 1938. His father is Mx - A. G. Gawith, Longbxxsh, Masterton.
