RIFLES FOR HOME GUARD
Since the Government launched its appeal for .303 rifles for the Home Guard, approximately 100 rifles have been received by the police in Southland. This figure covers the period up to the end of last week. The Government has now taken steps to impress privately-owned .303 rifles or parts, and instructions as to the procedure to be followed will probably be received in Invercargill this week. Many of those willing to hand in rifles have expressed a desire that they should be given to friends or relations in the Home Guard, and, as far as possible, this is being done.
