GOODS FOR MEMBERS OF FORCES

DUTY FREE IMPORTATION (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 27. Advice has been received by the Government from the New Zealand High Commissionei in London (Mr W. J. Jordan) that the Commissioners of Customs and Excise in the United Kingdom have approved of his office being established as a depot for the New Zealand War Services Association for the duty-free importation of goods (1) re-exported to the New Zealand Forces, (2) distributed to units of the New Zealand Forces in the United Kingdom and (3) distributed to individual New Zealanders serving in the British Forces in the United Kingdom. The arrangement also applies to parcels of dutiable goods sent by post. It would be necessary, said the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) for bulk consigmnents of goods intended for distribution among New Zealanders serving in the armed forces in the United Kingdom or on fronts conveniently served from London to be sent to the New Zealand War Services Association, care the High Commissioner’s Office. Parcels sent by post to individuals must bear the full name (regimental number if known) and particulars of the unit with which the addressee is serving, and should be sent care the New Zealand War Services Association, 415 Strand, London, W.C.2. It would be necessary to attach to the parcel the usual Customs declaration stating the nature of the goods posted, as well as .he weight and value. The procedure outlined, particularly for parcels requiring re-exportation from England, in no way affects liability for duty on entry into any country to which any goods may be reexported.
