On a defended claim for £ll/2/11 for the balance of the purchase money on a motor-cycle, judgment was given for Tappers Ltd. (Mr J. C. Prain) for £7/12/11 with costs £2/12/- against K. F. Meikle, of Ryal Bush (Mr T. V. Mahoney). William George Thomson, labourer (Mr F. G. O’Beirne) proceeded against Evan McKenzie Lyon, accountant, and Roope and Co. Ltd. (Mr T. R. Meredith) for £39/9/8 for overtime worked. After hearing evidence the Magistrate gave judgment by conseni against Roope and Co. Ltd for the amount claimed with £4/1/6 costs and for Lyon with £3/3/- solicitor’s fee. \

OBTAINING CREDIT BY FRAUD William Henry Patrick pleaded guilty to a charge of obtaining credit and money amounting to £3/11/- by fraud. Detective Sergeart R. Thompson said the accused was a native farmer of Whakapatu. He came to Invercargill and went to a taxi proprietor, representing that he had been in the employ of a city fish merchant from whom substantial wages were due. On this statement he received credit for two taxi hires and a loan in cash. He did not have money due to him. The accused attributed the offence to drink. The accused was convicted and admitted to probation for one year and ordered to make restitution of £3/11/-.
